Candidates

What I love about the MAC is that my family and I feel comfortable, welcome, and well taken care of in our club. I care about my fellow members and our amazing staff and facilities and want to do my part to help guide our club to be the foremost private club in St. Louis while preserving the character and rich traditions of the MAC.

Through my service on the Planning Committee, I’ve gained greater insight into how our Club operates and what our priorities and challenges will be as we move forward. The capital reserve studies which Club Benchmarking prepared for both West and Downtown club houses will be one of the tools that guide us to providing the best facilities and experience to our members. Looking to the future, I will contribute my experience to guiding our master plan studies for both clubhouses toward improvements that benefit our members and enhance our club. There will also be more work to integrate our Clayton club house into the growing MAC. I believe I can serve you in all of these areas.
If elected, I will contribute my experience as a business owner and leader, prior board experience, coupled with my engineering, project management, and construction experience to help guide our board to good decisions that benefit all of our members, our staff, and the long-term health of our club.

I am honored to be a candidate for our board and hope to give back even more.

 I’d appreciate your vote.

I truly love our Missouri Athletic Club. I have been a member since 1992, and the club has been a constant and meaningful part of my life ever since. If I am in town, you will usually find me at the club five or six times a week. My friends are there, my family is there, and many of the relationships that have shaped both my personal and professional life were formed within its walls.

What makes the MAC special is not just its history or its facilities, but the community of members who bring the club to life every day. The friendships and connections built here are what truly define the club, and that spirit of camaraderie is something worth protecting.

I am also excited to see the club’s membership growing and thriving. Reaching approximately 2,730 members and continuing to grow is a strong sign that the MAC remains as relevant and appealing today as it has ever been.

I am running for the Board of Governors because I have the time and energy to serve. I also bring experience from past board service and understand the importance of thoughtful governance, sound financial stewardship, and long-term planning.

If elected, my goal would be simple: to help ensure that the MAC remains vibrant, welcoming, and financially strong for years to come. I want today’s younger members—and those who follow them—to have the same kind of meaningful experience with the club that I have been fortunate to enjoy for more than thirty years.

The MAC has meant a great deal to my family and me, and it would be an honor to give some of that back by helping steward the clubs future.

It is an honor and a pleasure to be nominated for the MAC Board of Governors. Since joining the Club in 1979 as a junior member, I have developed a deep appreciation for what the MAC brings to its members and the St. Louis community. For more than four decades, the Club has been the foundation of relationships that have enriched every aspect of my life.

Throughout its 123-year history, the MAC has successfully navigated periods of real challenge while remaining a vital part of both its membership and the broader St. Louis landscape. During my early years in the 1980s, the Club faced meaningful shifts in the role of private clubs, just as it had in earlier eras and would again in the years that followed. Each time, the MAC adapted, evolved, and emerged stronger. That same spirit of resilience and thoughtful adaptation remains essential today.

While today’s challenges may be less acute, they are no less important. As we look ahead — in membership, facilities, club resources, and an increasingly competitive environment — we must continue to strengthen what makes the MAC unique. Our goal is to ensure the Club remains a meaningful and enduring part of our members’ family, social, and business lives.

I am running because I care deeply about the future of the MAC and its role for the next generation of members. Our membership is not only growing, but becoming younger, more family-oriented, and less traditional — with many not part of the Club even five years ago. We must provide the services and resources newer members seek while maintaining the uniqueness and character that define the MAC. I believe in building that bridge to keep the Club special, and I respectfully ask for your vote of confidence.

I am number 8 on the ballot.

It’s an exciting time to sport the Cherry Diamond! As Clayton opens and the west clubhouse master planning continues, so does the buzz in the community about the Missouri Athletic Club.

Athletics is our middle name at the MAC and we have an opportunity at some point in the future to reconstruct and reimagine our facilities out west, creating what is sure to be a world class facility. There’s no doubt that will happen, only when and to what degree, and no one is more excited about that opportunity than me. No matter what sport or athletics you or your family participate in, your feedback and input are vital to the future of the club. As a governor I would be proud to serve as a voice for athletes, competitors, and all those members who share the bond of sweating together in our gyms, on our courts, and in the classes.

Since joining in 2018, the Missouri Athletic Club has been the backdrop for so many meaningful moments in my family's life. Time spent together at the pool, fun conversations at the 1903 bar, and celebrating with fellow members at Club events downtown. We've formed friendships we never would have found elsewhere. The MAC has given us far more than I ever expected, and it would be a true honor to give something back.

I’m running for the Board of Governors to help strengthen a Club that has meant so much to me and my family.

As a CPA and CFP, I bring a background in finance and long-term planning that I believe serves the MAC well at this particular inflection point. I currently serve on the Finance Committee and the Long Range Financial Planning Subcommittee, which has deepened my appreciation for the complexity and the opportunity in front of us. The expansion into Clayton reflects positively on both our history and our momentum, and I believe we have a strong foundation to build strategically for the future. I would approach that responsibility with care, discipline, and a deep respect for the members who have placed their trust in this Club's leadership.

Having formed bonds with staff at both locations, I continue to be inspired by their commitment to excellence. They are a big part of what makes the MAC so special, and supporting that culture would be one of my priorities as a governor.

If elected, I will honor our traditions, protect the Club's financial strength, and think carefully about the future we are building for the next generation of members. I would be grateful for your consideration and your support.
It is truly an honor to be a candidate for the Missouri Athletic Club Board of Governors. As a life-long Saint Louisan, I consider the MAC to be one of Saint Louis’ true gems and institutions that has meant a great deal to so many for generations. To all of the past Officers, Board of Governors, Committee Members, General Managers, and Staff, thank you so much for making the MAC the outstanding club it is today.

My family and I have enjoyed our time at the MAC including tennis, pickleball, basketball, the West Clubhouse pool and gym, the Father-Daughter Dance, Breakfast with Santa, Easter Brunch, Christmas Eve Dinner, MACtivities, MAC Boxing Night, the USBBWA Awards Dinner, the Kentucky Derby Party, and more. My family were members of the former Town and Country Racquet Club in the 1980s, and it is my hope that my children will have the joy of membership at this wonderful club in the future. Speaking of the future, we are so excited for the MAC Clayton Clubhouse to open.
In addition to my role as Chief Legal Officer for TKC Holdings, Inc., I have served on a variety of nonprofit boards over my 25 year professional career; notably, as Board Chair of The Magic House Children’s Museum, Co-Founder/President of the Asian American Chamber of Commerce, President of the Missouri Asian American Bar Association, Founding Board Member for the Very Asian Foundation, Advisory Committee for the St. Louis Aquarium Foundation, Board of the St. Louis County Bar Association, and Board of Webster Hills United Methodist Church.

It would be my privilege to bring my passion and legal, business, and nonprofit experience to help continue the outstanding legacy and history of the MAC. Thank you so much for your consideration, and best wishes to you and your families.
Admittedly, my initial interest in the Missouri Athletic Club was sparked by the competition provided by the downtown basketball league. For a time, that was my only real connection to the Club. Over the years, that has completely changed. While I still value the opportunity to play in a lunch or after-work game on the 5th floor, there are many more aspects of the MAC that have motivated me to take this next step.

The MAC has become a true family destination for me, my wife, and our children. Sunday afternoons at the Club are now a tradition in our household. Whether it’s playing racquetball, working out, or a game of basketball, we value that time together. As our kids have gotten older, those visits have expanded to include weeknight workouts followed by dinner at Jack Buck Grille.

I share this because it reflects why I feel compelled to serve. This is something I have considered for some time, but I wanted to be sure I could fully commit—first to my family, and now to serving the Club in this capacity. That time is now.
I am honored to be a candidate for the Board of Governors. What began for me as a place to compete on the basketball court has grown into something far more meaningful—a place where I’ve built friendships, spent invaluable time with my family, and created lasting memories. That personal journey is what I would bring to the Board. I understand firsthand how the Club evolves with its members through different stages of life, and I am committed to helping ensure it continues to offer those same opportunities for connection, tradition, and growth. If elected, I will bring a thoughtful, member-focused perspective, grounded in those experiences, and work to strengthen the Club for current members and future generations.
The Missouri Athletic Club has been an important part of my life for three decades. Having served the MAC for 25 years as an employee and now as a member, I bring a rare and valuable perspective to Club governance, one grounded in deep institutional knowledge, firsthand operational experience, and a genuine love for our community.

As a member, I am actively engaged in Club life. I serve on the By‑laws Committee and am part of the Charitable Society for Children, which is especially meaningful to me. I’m an avid reader and enjoy the friendships formed through Book Club. I also make full use of our athletic facilities and fitness classes, and my husband and I regularly attend Club events from wine dinners and Apollos concerts to the Jack Buck Awards.

During my years as the Club’s Executive Assistant, I attended every Board meeting as well as the By‑laws and Ethics, Finance, and Membership Committee meetings. This gave me a comprehensive understanding of how the Board and management work together to guide the Club. Later, as Director of Membership, I represented the MAC at conferences across the U.S. and Canada, gaining insight into best practices at other private clubs. Those experiences reinforced my belief that few clubs offer the exceptional programs, culture, and amenities we enjoy here.
I am passionate about our By‑laws, well‑versed in Club finances, and deeply committed to member recruitment and retention, a true “Members First” mindset.

With my experience, institutional knowledge, and love of the MAC give me a unique advantage and asset to the board. I would be honored to serve on the Board of Governors, and I respectfully ask for your support and your vote.
My name is Michael York- I joined the MAC in 1994- served on the board of governors from 2004-2007- My presidents were Mark Neil, Mike Hackett and Rick Lodewyck- I had the privilege of working with Larry Thompson. The club was going through some fiscal difficulties, an elevator would go down, and we had to tap into the line of credit. Larry Absheer worked miracles with finances.
I love the MAC, as I have been a member since 1994. My class left the board fiscally sound.
My children loved Larry Thompson. He would take them places they probably should not have been. He is very easy to love.
My family was very involved with the club. Breakfast with Santa, Mother’s Day brunch, NCCA soccer awards, Father/Daughter dance, boxing night, etc.
The club is doing very well fiscally, which makes me very happy. My class introduces the associate’s membership to infuse young people into the MAC.
My goal for the future is to represent the club fiscally, morally, spiritually, and demonstrate my Christian values.
My wife of 35 years, Lisa Ann York, did the sip and shop for many years. Unfortunately, she suffered from cancer last May and passed away.
For the future, I will learn from past governors, past presidents and the current MAC staff.
I am excited to represent the club in the future, and will always represent the MAC board with class, dignity, and Christian values.
I am representing the MAC this year in the NACAD tourney in Seatle Washington.
I am good friends with all my teammates, and I know quite a few of the young guys as we talk about children, wives, etc.
