During our August meeting, the Board of Governors unanimously approved the Club’s budget for FY 2023 (Sept. 1, 2022-Aug. 31, 2023). Preparing a budget during an inflationary period, the likes of which we have not encountered in the United States for 40 years, was extremely challenging. As you are undoubtedly witnessing in your own families and businesses, the cost of seemingly everything is going up significantly and precipitously. By way of example, hourly wage rates at the Club have increased by 30% in the past three years, health insurance premiums for the Club’s staff have increased by 26% over the previous year, the Club’s property and casualty insurance premiums are up over 20% from the previous year, and the Club is experiencing 8%-9% inflation on food costs and other consumables. The bottom line—it costs more to operate the MAC and to provide an outstanding Member experience.
To help offset these rising costs, the Board of Governors approved a 6.5% dues increase that will be effective as of Sept. 1 and reflected in your Aug. 31 statement. The average increase across all Membership categories is less than $14 per month. The dues increase will allow the Club to continue to fulfill our stated mission of creating extraordinary experiences in all aspects of Club life. Furthermore, even though we are experiencing significant inflation, the Club and the Board of Governors are committed to continuing to enhance our facilities at both clubhouses by funding capital improvements through operating cash flow. The recently completed improvements to the Jack Buck Grille downtown and the soon-to-be-completed renovation of the 1903 Dining Room at the West Clubhouse reflect this commitment. In FY 2023, we will continue to make prudent investments in our facilities.
Thank you for your continued commitment to the Missouri Athletic Club.
Sincerely,
Brent Beumer, President
Missouri Athletic Club
